Local legend tells of seven princesses held captive in the cave by a spider monster. Prince Kummabhaya slew the spider and shouted, “Pinku Ya-Pyi!” (meaning “I have caught the spider!”). Over time, this phrase evolved into “Pindaya”—the name of the region today.

The Labyrinth of 9,000 Buddha Statues: The cave extends for approximately 150 meters. Upon entering, you will be awestruck by tens of thousands of Buddha statues—crafted from marble, bronze, terracotta, or gilded teak—donated by Buddhists from the 18th century to the present day. A winding, labyrinth-like path leads you through rocky recesses, allowing you to admire the Buddha in various meditative postures.
