MY VILLAGE SHOW

SHOW AT HANOI OPERA HOUSE

Standing in the heart of Hanoi, the opera house was located in a beautiful intersection downtown, where five main city roads lead to. The building was completed in 1911 after 10 years of construction, by two French architects, Broyer and V. Harley, resembling the Opéra Garnier de Paris.

The building is 34 meters above the ground and carried out in a total area of 2600 square meters with the 87-meter length and 30-meter width. Its design is strongly influenced by the French architecture style from the 19th century. The front facade impresses passerby with French neo-classical design shuttered windows, wrought-iron balconies and tiled friezes. The interior design of Hanoi Opera overwhelms visitors with T-shape white marble staircase centered with red carpet, crystal chandeliers, large wall mirrors, Corinthian columns and colorful dome by colorful murals and reliefs.

The auditorium is 24 x 24 meters with three seat floors that include 589 velvet seats. The second and third floor is dedicated to private box seats. The building also has one meeting room called ‘Mirror Room’, 18 make-up rooms, two rooms for voice training, and a library in the back.

In 1995, the building was restored in preparation for the 1997 summit of La Francophonie, which cost the government nearly 14 million US dollars.

SHOW AT HANOI VIETNAM TUONG THEATRE

Nested on Duong Thanh Street, which once named Rue de la Citadelle by the French, Vietnam Tuong Theatre has welcomed visitors and served as a melting pot where Vietnamese performing arts and culture meet world audience. Taking a short few minutes’ walks from Sword Lake, entering the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, one will find the Vietnam Tuong Theatre opposite the centuries-old Hang Da Market (Rue des Cuirs), where merchants has been gathering ever since feudal time. The theatre building has been around for over a hundred years, a true witness of Hanoi’s historical changes.

The Vietnam Tuong Theatre was originally built by the French as a cinematheque at the beginning of the 20th century, by the name “Olympia”. The cinematheque used to screen Western movies and mainly served the French colony’s entertainment needs. In 1945, when the revolution army took over Northern Vietnam as the French withdrew, the building was renamed “Hong Ha Theatre”, and had since then been appointed by the new Vietnamese government as a destination for troupes of local performing art genres such as Tuong, Cheo, Cai Luong, etc. to stage their works, bringing entertainment to Vietnamese residents, and preserving Vietnam’s cultural heritage. Of all these genres, “Tuong” stayed over the years and grew to become an essential attribute of this historic theatre. The place is therefore known as Vietnam Tuong Theatre.

The old “Olympia”, now Vietnam Tuong Theatre, is nowadays a major stage where Vietnamese culture and performing arts collide. Not only Tuong, Cheo, Hat Xam, etc. , the presence of Lang Toi – My Village’s contemporary artistic performance on Vietnam Tuong Theatre’s stage is a breath of fresh air, bringing forth cultural exchange and progressive expansion of Vietnamese contemporary performing arts.

With the cozy neo-classic design, enriched with a cultural and historical heritage over the years, Vietnam Tuong Theatre presents a unique ambiance, treating cultural enthusiasts to exotic and mesmerizing artistic experiences that mark their unforgettable memories in Hanoi.

Behind The Mask, Exhibition is taking place at Vietnam Tuong Theatre. A part of the series of activities celebrating Vietnam Tuong Theatre’s 60th anniversary, this is the first permanent exhibition about the art of Tuong in Vietnam, which aims to raise local awareness and introduces foreign tourists to this unique performance art.

A O SHOW IN HOIAN

The name ‘A O’ derives from ‘Lang Pho’, which means ‘village and city’. The show depicts the charming beauty and cultural richness of Vietnamese life in the countryside, in contrast with the nation’s racing urbanization. The show is a unique mix of bamboo circus, acrobatic acts, dance, and theatrical visual art. The live music echoes Vietnamese Southern work songs. All in all, this beautiful blend of genres creates a unique stage language, which well captures the essence of Vietnam’s fascinating culture.

SHOW AT HOI AN LUNE CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Hoi An is one of the few ancient towns in Southeast Asia with architecture, lifestyle and culture well preserved with heritage from many centuries ago and remains till today, despite changing times and challenging weather of central Vietnam.

The park is located in an important position in terms of geography and even feng shui, where both rivers meet. The elders and cultural experts even call it ‘the tip of the ancient town’.

The houses in the park were constructed based on structures of Hoi An’s ancient houses, which are mostly wooden-built, with roofs protruding out closer to the street, and yards located between blocks filled with greenery.

Studying the cultivation structures that local farmers built with bamboo, the architects suggest the rest of the park be constructed of geometric bamboo work, creating patterns that harmonize with nature and the central man-made structure: Hoi An Lune Center.

The color palette of the park carries hues from the ancient town: terracotta-red roof tiles, ochre-yellow wall, shades of brown wood, shades of green and yellow from various breeds of bamboo. Brick, wood, clay, stones, etc. All elements with material rooted in nature mixed together to create structures so humble, yet exuding a timeless charm, an atmosphere where nature and generations of man, with their abundant cultures, shall harmonize.

Functional spaces within the park: One dome-shaped big top functioning as a performing complex, facilitating theatrical genres from traditional to contemporary – the park’s iconic attraction. The central square bears patterns of the bronze drum, a symbol of Vietnam’s culture and heritage, and its open space welcomes communal activities, artistic and cultural exchanges. Two food courts cover an area of 324 m2. And Hoai river-view garden welcomes guests from Hoi An to Dong Hiep Island to rest and enjoy the arts.

SHOW AT SAIGON OPERA HOUSE

Standing magnificently at the heart of Ho Chi Minh City is the Saigon Opera House, which is also known as the Municipal Theater. The building stands as one of the impressive sights in Saigon – both night and day.

Saigon Opera House was built in 1898 by the French architect – Eugene Ferret, following the “flamboyant” style of the French Third Republic. It was set to be two meters higher than the street surface with two-door layers, in order to prevent traffic noise.

Built-in parallel structure, the Opera House is located on the city’s center axis, connecting the metro station and roundabout in front of Ben Thanh market. From a distance, the Opera House looks like a beautiful gigantic city gate. The architecture boasts stone-carved ornaments and statues at the entrance, crystal chandeliers, and shiny granite floor at the lobby area – all built with materials imported from France. The oval auditorium with 468 seats offers a good view from every seat. It is also echo-free and therefore preserves all the sound inside the theatre.

The theatre is now a venue for many high profile events and cultural – entertainment activities of the city. Certified as a national relic in 2012, this magnificent building stays on top of the must-visit of Ho Chi Minh City.
