2. Introduce about Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

 President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is located at 2 Hung Vuong, Dien Bien ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi. This is a project to preserve the body of President Ho Chi Minh according to the wishes of all Vietnamese people, started on September 2, 1973 and inaugurated on August 29, 1975.

The mausoleum consists of 3 layers with a height of 21.6 m and a width of 41.2 m; The lower layer creates the shape of three steps, the middle layer is the central structure of the mausoleum, including the corpse room, corridors, and stairs. The outside of the mausoleum is covered with gray granite, the inside is made of polished gray and red stone. Around the four sides are rows of square marble columns, the top layer is a three-step mausoleum roof. On the main side is the inscription: “CHỦ TỊCH HỒ- CHÍ – MINH” in plum-colored pink stone. Surrounding the mausoleum are gardens where more than 250 species of plants are grown from all over Vietnam.

In front and behind the mausoleum, 79 cycad trees are planted, symbolizing President Ho Chi Minh’s 79th birthday. On the south and north sides of the mausoleum are two bamboo groves, a tree symbolizing Vietnam. There are always 2 soldiers standing guard in front of the mausoleum, the guard changes every hour.

The mausoleum has a square shape, each side is 30m long, the door turns to the East, the south and north sides have two 65m long platforms for guests during major holidays. In front of the mausoleum is Ba Dinh Square with a path for military parades and parades, and a 380m long lawn divided into 240 squares of green grass throughout the 4 seasons. In front of the mausoleum is a flagpole. Straight across the lawn is Bac Son street, planted with red roses and peach blossoms. At the end of Bac Son Street is the Martyrs’ Monument. On the west side of the square is the Ho Chi Minh memorial area.

In the middle of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is the room where President Ho Chi Minh’s body is placed. President Ho’s body was placed in a glass box. 3. Experiences when visiting the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

Visit inside President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

  • Visitors will follow the flow of people to visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum according to the instructions of the Management Board. During the visit, visitors are not allowed to take photos or videos, so you need to send or turn off the power of relevant devices before entering.
  • Going through Ba Dinh Square to reach the Mausoleum area, you will line up in groups to visit President Ho Chi Minh in the inner area.

  • The Flag Raising Ceremony usually starts at 6:00 a.m. (in summer) and 6:30 a.m. (in winter). Specifically, the Targeting Team of 34 people, symbolizing the first 34 soldiers of the Vietnam Liberation Army Propaganda Team, will gather and line up in strict formation. Then, the Guard marched toward the flagpole. The commanding officer read the oath. The red flag with the yellow star of Vietnam was slowly raised, fluttering at the top of the flagpole. The infantry squad performs the flag saluting ceremony. Everyone present at the Square sang the National Anthem. And after completing the ritual, the squad marched out of the yard.

  • The Flag Lowering Ceremony at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is a solemn and sacred ritual, taking place every day at 9:00 p.m. Like the Flag Raising Ceremony, the Flag Lowering Ceremony is also an activity that shows the respect of the Vietnamese people to President Ho Chi Minh and is a symbol of national solidarity and unity. Similar to the Thuong Co ceremony, the 34-member Guard will gather and line up in strict formation and then march towards the flagpole. The commanding officer read the oath. The national flag was slowly lowered. The infantry squad performs the flag saluting ceremony. The audience sang the National Anthem together. After completing the ritual, the parade team marched around the Mausoleum then returned to its original position and ended the Flag Lowering Ceremony.

4. Basic informations about President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

Tickets to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum are divided into 2 aspects as follows:

  • For Vietnamese citizens: free admission
  • For international tourists to Vietnam: 25,000 VND/person/point (about 1 USD).

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum opening hours

  • Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is open in the morning every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. If on 19th May, 2th September or the first day of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year falls on a Monday or Friday, the Mausoleum will still be open to visitors.
  • Normally, each year the mausoleum will be closed for about 2 months to maintain the body of President Ho Chi Minh. The exact schedule will be announced in advance by the Mausoleum Management Board. You should pay attention to this time to avoid visiting at this time. The mausoleum is not open.

Specific visiting hours at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum are as follows:

  • Summer & Fall (April 1 – October 31): Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday, Sunday, from 7:30 am to 10:30 am.
  • Winter & Spring (November 1 – March 31): Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday, Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, Sunday and holidays: tour time is extended by 30 minutes.

Regulations of the Mausoleum

Skin:

  • Polite, discreet: You should wear long-sleeved clothes, shirts with collars, avoid wearing shorts, short skirts, tank tops, or clothes that are too tight or torn.
  • Elegant colors: Avoid wearing clothes that are too colorful or have offensive prints.
  • When you arrive in front of the mausoleum, if you are wearing a hat or hat, hold it in your right hand and keep the inside of the hat or hat facing outward.
  • Note, children under 3 years old are not allowed to visit the mausoleum. So if you bring children and want to visit Uncle Ho’s mausoleum, please arrange a babysitter.

Behavior

  • Maintain order: Line up neatly, do not jostle or push.
  • Silence: When entering the Mausoleum, stay absolutely silent and do not talk loudly.
  • Respect: Do not point or touch objects in the Mausoleum.
  • Turn off the phone: Turn off the phone ringer, do not use mobile phones in the Mausoleum area.
  • No smoking: Smoking is prohibited within the Mausoleum grounds.
  • Do not bring bulky items: Do not bring sharp objects, flammable or explosive substances or bulky items into the Mausoleum.

Taking photos and filming:

  • No photography or filming in the Mausoleum: Photography and filming in the room where President Ho Chi Minh’s body is located is strictly prohibited.
  • Other areas: Photography and filming are only allowed in authorized areas.
  • Complying with the above regulations not only shows respect for President Ho Chi Minh but also helps protect the solemn and pure space of the Mausoleum.

Means of transportation to the Mausoleum

To get to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, visitors can choose the following transportation methods:

  • Bicycles, motorbikes, personal cars: Please note that you should park your personal vehicles at the parking lot on Ong Ich Khiem Street (opposite the Mausoleum Protection Command) or Ngoc Ha Street (Museum entrance gate). Ho Chi Minh).
  • Bus: You take bus numbers 09, 22, 33, 45, 50 running across Ba Dinh Square or the double-decker Hanoi City Tour bus. Currently, Hanoi double-decker buses pass through Uncle Ho’s Mausoleum.
