  • Yangon was formerly known as Rangoon, lit. “End of Strife” is the capital of the Yangon Region of Myanmar (also known as Burma). Yangon served as the capital of Myanmar until 2006, when the military government relocated the capital to the purpose-built city of Naypyidaw in central Myanmar. With over 7 million people, Yangon is Myanmar’s largest city and its most important commercial centre.
  • Kyaikhtiyo pagoda is located in a small town called Kyaikhto, in the Mon State. This destination is 160km away from Yangon. The pagoda is 1100km above sea-level. It is a 11-kilometer uphill climb for the hikers from Kinpun base camp. There is also a steep winding road for 4-wheel drive cars from the base to the nearest point of the pagodas. The pagoda is also known as “the golden rock”. The meaning of Kyaik Hti Yo : According to Mon tradition, the name is a corruption of Kyaiki-thi-yo being derived as follows. In Mon language the word “Kyaik” means ” pagoda” and ” yo” ” to carry on the hermits head”, in Pali the word” ithi” means a hermit and therefore the name means ” the pagoda carried on the hermit’s head.
  • Bago (formerly Pegu) is the capital city of Bago Division in the Irrawaddy region of Myanmar. On the main road between North and South Myanmar, this is a highly noisy and trafficked town.

If you are unsure whether you want to overnight here or not, we suggest you leave as soon as possible. Visiting the local “attractions” can be done in a couple of hours unless you’re an extreme fan of pagodas and reclining Buddhas.
